The Coordinator of Resident Artists will be responsible for orienting newly arrived Resident Artists, and organizing events for the community of Resident Artists under the guidance of the Scuola’s Director. The Coordinator, while being integrated in the Scuola’s community, will have the freedom and time to create his/her own work (culminating in a solo exhibition), and the opportunity to meet, and work alongside, artists from around the world. This position is an exciting opportunity to fully immerse in Venetian life, while contributing to the success of one of the leading international studios for professional and practicing artists in Italy. The recipient will report to the Director of the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica.

4 recipients are selected every year for a period of 3 months each.

Requirements

  • Recipient of an Art Degree (Bachelor or Master, preferably with a concentration in Printmaking or/and Book Arts).
  • Experience planning and coordinating events, exhibitions, etc.
  • Friendly, creative, energetic.
  • Basic Italian language skills preferred.
  • Previous travel to Venice preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Venetian history and art history preferred.

Compensation / Application Information

The Resident Artist Coordinators will receive keys and full access to the studios 7 days a week, as well as housing accommodation in a private bedroom in the Scuola’s apartments, located in the heart of Venice. A solo exhibition in the SG Gallery will be also granted. The Coordinators are responsible for their meals and for travel and local transportation costs. TERMS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM


RESPONSIBILITIES
There is no fixed schedule. The Coordinator will be free to organize his/her time with the maximum flexibility. We assume that altogether the following tasks should average roughly 6 hours per week. The main objective of the position is to be an active presence at the Scuola, and to serve as a liason between the Scuola and the community of Resident Artists. With this in mind, the Resident Artists Coordinator will be requested to always make sure that all resident artists abide by the Scuola's rules.
• Orientate arriving resident artists (on average 7 per month) to the Scuola’s studio space and rules.
• Organize a minimum of 3 events for resident artists per month (Ex: exhibitions of work in progress, day trips to locations in Venice, presentations from local artists, interactions with local contemporary art scene etc.)
• Act as go-to-person for questions about residency matters, including technical support in the printshop (in collaboration with the Printshop Manager), concerns and questions.

ACCOMMODATION INFORMATION

Accommodation is provided in the Scuola’s apartments in Campo San Maurizio, which is in the central historic area of Venice, a 5 minute walk from Piazza San Marco and the Accademia. The furnished apartments are equipped with kitchen, bathrooms with showers and laundry facilities. Based on availability and enrollment, Postgraduate Residents may be assigned a shared bedroom with another artist of the same gender. Free wireless DSL Internet connection is also provided. Painting in the apartments s not allowed.
STUDIO FACILITIES
Resident artists work in our large, luminous, fully equipped printshop with presses for all printmaking media. Additionally, a painting studio provides individual work spaces. Please note that our painting studio is not suited for oil paint, nor for painting methods which may provoke strong smells or require use of toxic materials. Painters are encouraged to apply for work projects based on painting techniques that are compatible with a shared space.
LIFE AT THE SCUOLA

Resident Coordinators have open access to the Scuola’s studio facilities. They are given keys 
to the Scuola and are welcome to use the facilities 7 days a week, from 9am to 10:30pm. Both artists and students enjoy 
participating in life at the Scuola through presentations and critiques. When in calendar, resident artists have the opportunity to attend our classes and workshops at no additional cost.
COMPUTER ROOM AND SERIGRAPHY

The computer room is equipped with 20 iMacs (running Adobe® CS5), a scanner and two printers. The cost of a color print-out as well as the cost of a xerox copy, is 25 cents. If you prefer, we can direct you to a printing shop for larger formats than A4 and for good quality printouts. The computer room is free all day from June to September, and in October to May from 16:45. 
Part of the compound has wi-fi; you can bring your laptop and connect it to the Internet. Resident artists also have access to 
a serigraphy studio, darkroom and machinery for photoetching.
ART SUPPLIES

These Materials are available to everyone: Etching grounds, soft ground, alcohol, petroleum, abrasive powders, detergents, 
bites (ferric chloride, copper solphate), lithography stones and materials, screens and equipment for serigraphy, black ink for etching, lithography and typography, proof paper and vellum paper. Other equipment is available only on a limited basis (glue, acrylics, permanent markers, masking tape, cutters, carborundum, tarlatan). You are required to provide your own materials, including brushes and pencils. Gloves, tarlatan, colored inks, etching paper, copper, aluminum, wood and zinc can be purchased from the Studio or in local stores. The equipment of the Scuola is valuable. Since everyone can use it, special care must be taken to return all such equipment where they belong. Things are never to be taken out of the Scuola. Each morning a staff member checks all the equipment, printing characters, inks, rollers, brushes. Books are to be returned to their place after you have consulted them and are never to be taken out of the Scuola.
GUESTS IN THE APARTMENTS

We can accept in our housing facilities only our resident artists. Overnight guests are not allowed.
